Belgium is small on the map and complicated in search. Anyone hiring a digital marketing agency Belgium buyers will trust has to answer a question most markets never ask: which language community are you actually trying to reach? Flanders searches mostly in Dutch, Wallonia in French, the east cantons partly in German, and Brussels mixes all of them with a large English-speaking workforce.
This page treats that split as a data problem first and a creative problem second. It starts with the official firm counts, then maps language demand, platforms, the Belgian rules on cookies and commercial email, and how a remote engagement with us runs. Plainly stated: we work from Pakistan, have no office or staff in Belgium, and write in English while planning Dutch and French SEO for native writers you approve.
What the 2024 enterprise figures say about Belgian demand
Eurostat's structural business statistics record 931,405 enterprises in Belgium's business economy for 2024. Of these, 895,820 (96.2% of all enterprises) count as micro-enterprises (0-9 persons employed), while just 1,498 enterprises employ 250 or more people.
Read those three numbers together and the shape of the market is clear. Almost every potential client, and almost every competitor your business faces, is a very small firm. Budgets are modest, decisions are made by owners rather than procurement teams, and the winners online are usually the firms that look organised: fast pages, consistent listings and clear answers to the questions buyers type.
The thin top end matters too. With so few large enterprises, B2B suppliers often chase the same short list of accounts, so account-based content and precise paid targeting beat broad awareness campaigns.

Mapping search demand by language community
Flanders: Dutch-first, Netherlands-adjacent
Flemish searchers use Dutch, but their vocabulary and spelling preferences are not identical to those in the Netherlands. Pages written for Dutch audiences can rank in Flanders, yet conversion suffers when terms, prices or delivery promises feel foreign. Our Netherlands guide covers the northern side of that relationship.
Wallonia and the French-speaking market
French-language queries face competition from French sites with far larger content budgets. Belgian French pages win by being specific: Belgian place names, Belgian legal and delivery details, and local contact routes. Compare the dynamics in our France guide.
Brussels and the English layer
The capital adds institutions, international firms and expatriates who search in English. For many B2B services an English section is worth testing, provided it is a separate, properly tagged version rather than a mixed page.
Technically, each language needs its own URL and correct hreflang annotations. Our free hreflang tag generator produces the markup, and our SEO services cover keyword research per community.
Where a digital marketing agency Belgium clients hire should look beyond Google
Google remains the starting point, but Belgian buyers verify before they commit. Shoppers compare on Bol.com, which serves both Belgium and the Netherlands, and on Amazon's European storefronts. Second-hand and local deals move through 2dehands in Dutch and 2ememain in French, and property searches cluster on dedicated portals such as Immoweb.
For service firms, the Google Business Profile carries most of the weight in map results. Because one business may serve customers in two languages, its categories, description and posts should be planned rather than left to chance. Local SEO work here is mostly consistency: the same name, address and hours everywhere, in each language you use.
In B2B, LinkedIn is the main paid and organic channel, and Google Ads campaigns usually need separate Dutch and French ad groups, each with its own negative keywords.
Belgian consent, email and calling rules in brief
Three national layers sit on top of the GDPR. First, cookies: article 10/2 of the Law of 30 July 2018 allows storing or reading information on a device only after clear information and the user's consent, except for transmission or storage that a requested service genuinely needs. So every analytics or ad tag must hold until the visitor says yes.
Second, email: the Code of Economic Law, article XII.13, requires prior consent for advertising by email. The Royal Decree of 4 April 2003 carves out a soft opt-in for existing clients buying comparable products, plus an exception for impersonal addresses of legal persons. Amendments to Book XII are pending, so check the current text before a campaign.
Third, phone: consumers can register on the Ne m'appelez plus / Bel me niet meer list. The regulator is the Belgian Data Protection Authority. This is orientation, not legal advice; your lawyer should confirm the details.
Running a remote engagement across CET and PKT
Arb Digital staff keep Pakistan office hours of 9am to 6pm PKT on weekdays. Pakistan is UTC+5 all year, so in Belgian winter (CET, UTC+1) that window is 5am to 2pm Brussels time, and in summer (CEST, UTC+2) it is 6am to 3pm. In practice, Belgian clients get a full morning of overlap; afternoon calls are booked by appointment, and email to [email protected] is answered within our working day.
The first fortnight sets the data baseline: Search Console, analytics, consent configuration and one keyword map per language. After that, each monthly report breaks out rankings, leads, ad spend and pending choices, split by language community so you can see which market earns its budget.
There is no fixed term: either party may stop with 30 days' notice, and we invoice for bank transfer. For realistic expectations on pace, read how long SEO takes.
Official support and the city guide in this hub
FPS Economy publishes guidance for businesses and runs the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, where company numbers can be checked. In the capital, hub.brussels supports founders and exporters, and Flemish firms can turn to VLAIO.
Within this hub, a Brussels guide covers the capital's search behaviour in more depth. When you want to know how visible your business is in each language, ask for the free SEO audit and we will show the gaps in order of impact.
