Rotterdam does not do things quietly. Europe's biggest port stretches from the city to Maasvlakte, the skyline around Kop van Zuid keeps changing, and a large international workforce means plenty of business is done in English. If you are searching for a marketing agency Rotterdam firms can brief without a translator, you will mostly find directories and Dutch-language agency sites. This guide takes a different route and answers the questions buyers actually ask.
A note on who we are: Arb Digital's specialists work remotely from Pakistan. We have no Rotterdam desk, we do not attend your meetings in person, and we only offer the search, advertising and website work that can be done well at a distance.
How big is the Rotterdam market?
Statistics Netherlands provides the answer. On 1 January 2026 (provisional figures) the municipality of Rotterdam had 110,815 business establishments. Of those, 23,145 were in specialist business services (SBI M) and 6,080 in information and communication (SBI J).
That is a deep pool of competitors for almost any service. A bookkeeper, architect or IT consultant in Rotterdam is not competing with a handful of rivals, but with hundreds. Visibility therefore depends on specificity: ranking for the exact service, district and customer type you serve, not for broad terms that every firm in the city wants.

Which marketing agency Rotterdam setup suits your firm?
Use this quick decision list:
- You sell to Dutch consumers in Dutch and need brand campaigns, events or photography: a Rotterdam creative agency is usually right.
- You sell B2B, often in English, to shippers, manufacturers or international clients: a search specialist can build the content and technical base that wins enquiries.
- You run an online shop shipping across the Benelux and beyond: product feeds, e-commerce SEO and Shopping ads matter more than slogans.
- You need both: split the work. Creative locally, search and paid media with a specialist.
The second and third cases are where we are strongest. We are open about not being the right fit for the first.
What does good port and logistics marketing look like?
Freight forwarders, customs brokers, warehousing firms and maritime service companies around Waalhaven, Botlek and Europoort sell to buyers who compare carefully. Their decision makers want lead times, certifications, routes and contact people, not adjectives. Strong pages for this sector usually include:
- One page per service and per trade lane, with clear scope and limits.
- Location detail that helps buyers understand where cargo is handled.
- Downloadable documents and specification sheets, properly indexed.
- Structured data and clean technical SEO, so search engines and AI assistants can read the offer accurately.
- Paid search on high-intent terms, monitored weekly because logistics clicks are rarely cheap.
Do Rotterdam customers search in English?
Some do, many do not. Students at Erasmus University, expat professionals and international firms around Rotterdam Centraal often search in English. Most residents, and most Dutch SMEs, search in Dutch. A Markthal food stall and a maritime insurer face completely different language patterns. We write in English and can research Dutch search demand, set up hreflang and plan bilingual site structure, but Dutch copy should be written or checked by a native speaker.
Neighbourhood matters too. Searches for services in Kralingen, Delfshaven, Hillegersberg or the Zuid districts behave differently from city-wide queries, and service-area businesses such as cleaners, installers and physiotherapists often win more work by building a page for each area they genuinely cover than by chasing the word Rotterdam alone.
Which Dutch rules affect your campaigns?
This section is general information, not legal advice. Three points come up in almost every Rotterdam project:
- Cookies and tracking. Under the Telecommunicatiewet, placing or reading marketing cookies and pixels needs informed consent, so analytics and ad tags must respect the banner choice.
- Email. Commercial email without proof of earlier permission is restricted by the same act. Keep records of when and how each contact opted in.
- Personal data. GDPR applies to leads, CRM data and audiences; the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens is the Dutch regulator, and the European Data Protection Board publishes the shared EU guidance.
Online shops selling to consumers should also check whether the European Accessibility Act applies to their checkout, since its national rules took effect in June 2025.
How does a remote engagement actually run?
Rotterdam is on Central European Time. Pakistan is four hours ahead in the Dutch winter and three hours ahead in summer, so our 9am to 6pm PKT schedule covers about 5am to 2pm Rotterdam time from late October to late March, then about 6am to 3pm. Practically, anything you send before noon is normally handled that day, and longer calls are arranged in advance via [email protected].
Each month brings a written report on tasks, rankings, traffic and enquiries. Terms roll monthly, notice is 30 days, and payment is by bank transfer. Company registration and free start-up advice come from the KVK. You can compare our Amsterdam guide and the national Netherlands page, then book a free audit to see where your site stands.
