A good SEO agency Poole firms hire should be able to tell the harbour from the seafront. Poole shares a council with Bournemouth, but its economy has a different shape: a working port with ferries to France and the Channel Islands, boatyards and marinas around Holes Bay, and watersports businesses whose year is ruled by the weather. This guide sets out the questions to put to any supplier, using those realities.
For clarity, every member of the Arb Digital team sits in Pakistan; nobody works for us in Dorset, and we keep no premises or phone line there. Judge the advice below on its merits, then decide whether a remote supplier suits the way your business likes to work.
Reading the BCP figures without mistaking Poole for Bournemouth
The ONS does not publish separate counts for Poole. Its 2026 figures cover the whole Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council area, the same area our Bournemouth page describes: 15,800 VAT or PAYE enterprises, 18,475 business sites, 89.3% of enterprises with fewer than ten staff and 55 with 250 or more. Construction is the largest industry by business count, at 2,825.
Treat any supplier who quotes those numbers as Poole's own with caution. The useful question is narrower: which of your customers are in Poole, Hamworthy, Sandbanks or Parkstone, and which are along the coast or abroad? Your plan should follow that answer, not the council boundary.

Marine and boatbuilding: is the agency ready for overseas buyers?
Sunseeker's yard sits at the entrance to Holes Bay beyond the lifting bridge, and marinas such as Cobbs Quay serve boat owners from far beyond Dorset. Suppliers in this world sell components, refits, brokerage and services to buyers who may sit in Europe or further afield.
Ask a prospective agency whether it has handled international search. That means separate language or country versions where they are justified, hreflang set up correctly (our hreflang tag generator helps), and technical specifications written for engineers rather than holidaymakers. Technical SEO matters more than flashy design when a buyer in Brittany is comparing you against a yard in the Netherlands.
Port of Poole freight and ferries: B2B search for logistics firms
Brittany Ferries sails from Poole to Cherbourg, and Poole is the UK hub for the Bayonne to Cherbourg to Poole rail-ferry freight route. Condor runs the St Malo, Guernsey and Poole service. Hauliers, forwarders, customs agents and warehousing firms around Hamworthy and the port all compete for shippers who search for specific lanes and services.
The question to ask is whether the agency would build pages around those lanes, such as Cherbourg freight or Channel Islands deliveries, with the details shippers check: frequencies, cut-off times, temperature control, paperwork. Generic logistics copy will not win that work. SEO services plus a small, well-targeted Google Ads budget usually suit this kind of buyer.
Harbour tourism and watersports: planning around a short season
Sailing schools, paddleboard hire, boat trips and Sandbanks hospitality earn most of their money in a few months. Ask how a supplier would spread demand: content that targets autumn and spring trips, gift vouchers promoted before Christmas, and a Business Profile updated as conditions and timetables change. Paid campaigns should switch off in bad weather rather than burn budget on bookings you cannot honour.
Holes Bay and the wider Twin Sails regeneration area are also bringing new homes and employment land, which in time means new local demand for trades, childcare, fitness and food. Those businesses will need local SEO from the start.
UK rules an SEO agency Poole firms hire must respect
A summary only.
Advertised prices. Crossing fares, trip prices and from-prices must be accurate and available. The CAP Code covers your website and social posts as well as paid adverts.
Cookies on booking sites. Ad-tracking tags on a booking page need opt-in consent before they fire. The regulator's ICO guidance on storage and access technologies sets out the newer, tightly limited exception for basic visitor statistics.
B2B calls. Ringing companies to sell freight services means screening against the CTPS register first.
Will a team in Pakistan keep up with a Dorset working day?
It is the right objection to raise. We work weekdays, nine to six Pakistan time. Measured on a Poole clock, that runs from about four in the morning to one in the afternoon in winter, and five until two in summer. Overnight emails get answered while your day is still young; anything for the late afternoon is scheduled ahead. You receive a plain monthly summary of enquiries by source, and you may leave on 30 days' notice. If face-to-face meetings on the quay are essential, hire locally.
Free support is available from the Dorset Growth Hub and Dorset Chamber. See our Portsmouth guide and the England overview for nearby markets, and ask for a free SEO audit when ready.
