Type digital marketing agency Scarborough into Google and much of what comes back belongs to a suburb of Toronto or a town in Maine. That confusion is the first thing any marketing plan for the Yorkshire resort has to fix, because your customers meet the same muddle when they search for hotels, plumbers or cafΓ©s here.
Arb Digital works with coastal businesses remotely. Our people are in Pakistan, not on Foreshore Road, and this page says so up front. Below is what we would actually do for a Scarborough firm, sector by sector.
Where does Scarborough sit in the numbers now?
Scarborough is now part of North Yorkshire: the former borough was absorbed into the North Yorkshire unitary council, so official business counts are published for that whole council area rather than for the town. The March 2026 register shows 32,555 VAT or PAYE businesses in the North Yorkshire council area, across 37,395 sites. Some 89.4% have fewer than ten staff and 90 have 250 or more. The biggest industry by count is agriculture, forestry and fishing, with 5,860 businesses.
For a Scarborough firm, the useful reading is this. The county figures are dominated by farms and micro-businesses spread over a huge rural area, which means competition for town-specific searches is thin. A well-built site that clearly says Scarborough, North Yorkshire, names Eastfield, Seamer and the North and South Bays, and loads quickly on a phone will often outrank firms with far bigger budgets.

Why does Google keep showing Ontario and Maine?
Because the name is shared and those places have more pages online. Search engines lean on signals to decide which Scarborough you mean: your address in schema markup, the county in titles, the postcode area, local landmarks, and links from Yorkshire sources such as the council, the growth hub or a regional news site. We set those signals deliberately as part of local SEO, and we check your Business Profile category and service area so map results stay on this side of the Atlantic.
The same signals help AI assistants. When someone asks one for a holiday cottage in Scarborough, it needs clear evidence that you are on the Yorkshire coast. Our generative engine optimisation work makes that evidence easy to find and quote.
How do hotels and holiday lets keep bookings coming after September?
By selling reasons to visit that are not about the beach. Winter walking on the Cleveland Way, dark-sky breaks on the North York Moors, Whitby weekends, Christmas markets and dog-friendly cottages all attract searches outside peak months. Each deserves its own page with honest detail: what is open, how to get there, what it costs to park. Paid campaigns on Google Ads can then fill gaps in specific weeks, rather than running all year at the same spend.
Write for the whole coast, too. Visitors searching for Whitby, Filey or Robin Hood's Bay often have not decided where to stay, so a Scarborough base with good transport details is a fair answer to their query.
Is there a digital marketing agency Scarborough food and skills firms can use for B2B?
Yes, and their needs differ from tourism. McCain Foods runs its Eastfield production site and UK head office here, and it sits within a wider supply chain of growers, hauliers, engineers and packaging firms. Those suppliers sell to buyers who search by capability and certification, so detailed service pages and content marketing written for technical readers work far better than generic brochure copy.
The town centre is also changing. Scarborough received Towns Fund money, with projects including the Station Gateway and a FabLab+ skills centre for robotics, 3D design and sound engineering, part of the council's aim to move the centre towards innovation. Training providers, makers and start-ups linked to that shift need to be visible to learners and partners well beyond the town.
Which UK rules matter most on the coast?
- Guest feedback. Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, buying or faking consumer comments is unlawful, and so is suppressing negative ones. The CMA's guidance for businesses sets out what is expected.
- Booking-site cookies. Tracking pixels for ads usually need consent first; read the ICO guidance on storage and access technologies.
- Food claims. Words such as "local", "fresh" or "Yorkshire-grown" on menus and ads must be accurate under the CAP Code.
What does working with us look like from Monday to Friday?
Picture a normal week. Our working day is 9am to 6pm in Pakistan, so by the time you open up at 9am in Scarborough we have already had five hours (four in summer) at your account. Monday brings a short written update. Midweek, drafts arrive for you to approve; nothing goes live without your yes. By Friday lunchtime in Yorkshire our day is over, so send anything urgent in the morning, and an afternoon call can be arranged by appointment through [email protected].
Billing is monthly by bank transfer with no fixed term; give 30 days' notice whenever you wish to stop. A free look at your site comes first if you get in touch.
Help across North Yorkshire and the next towns along
