Madrid has one of the most crowded search markets in southern Europe. Corporate headquarters along the Paseo de la Castellana, the towers of the Cuatro Torres business area, trade fairs at IFEMA and thousands of professional firms all compete for the same queries. If you are choosing an SEO agency Madrid buyers can brief in English, you face a wall of proposals that look alike on the surface. This guide shows how to tell them apart.
We should be clear about ourselves first. Arb Digital is run remotely from Pakistan, works in English and has no presence in the Spanish capital. We explain below which kinds of Madrid companies a remote SEO partner suits, and which should hire someone who can sit in their office.
Why Madrid SEO is hard: the numbers
According to INE's Central Business Directory (1 January 2025), the municipality of Madrid had 297,693 active companies. Among them, 83,019 were in professional, scientific, technical and administrative services and 13,383 in information and communications.
That is far more competition per keyword than in most European cities. A lawyer, consultant, software firm or clinic in Madrid is ranking against hundreds of similar businesses, many with Spanish-language content teams. Winning therefore rarely comes from a broad phrase such as the service plus the city name alone. It comes from depth on specific topics, strong technical foundations and pages that answer real buyer questions better than anyone else.

Spanish, English and international search
Most Madrid consumers search in Spanish, and most local competitors publish in Spanish. English matters for international companies, expat services, business schools, tourism and B2B firms selling across Europe or Latin America. A sensible structure keeps Spanish and English versions on clear URLs with correct hreflang, so each audience sees the right page.
We write in English. For Spanish pages we research keywords and structure, then work with a native writer of your choice; we do not claim native Spanish copywriting. Firms that need mostly Spanish content are usually better served by a Madrid agency, and we will tell you if that is your case.
Latin American demand is a further consideration. Many Madrid companies sell to Mexico, Colombia or Argentina, where search vocabulary differs noticeably from Spain. A single Spanish version may underperform in those markets, so larger exporters often run country-specific pages with their own hreflang codes. Planning that structure early is far cheaper than untangling duplicate content later, and it lets campaigns in each country point to a page written for that audience.
Generative search changes the brief
Madrid buyers increasingly ask AI assistants for supplier shortlists and explanations, and some established Spanish agencies already sell AI-visibility services. The fundamentals stay the same: clear, well-structured pages, consistent company information and content that answers questions directly. What changes is that pages also need to be easy to quote correctly. Our generative engine optimisation service focuses on that, and our guide on ranking in ChatGPT explains the thinking.
Rules that shape Madrid campaigns
For general orientation, not legal advice:
- Fake endorsements are banned. Under the EU consumer rules updated by the Omnibus Directive, buying or inventing customer feedback, or presenting unchecked feedback as verified, is a prohibited practice. The European Commission's consumer sweeps show how actively this is checked.
- Consent for cookies and email. Spain's LSSI and the GDPR require it for most tracking and promotional messages. The AEPD enforces data protection.
- Paid placement must be disclosed. Rankings or listings that someone paid for must be labelled as such.
How we work with Madrid clients from Pakistan
Madrid observes CET and switches to CEST in summer; Pakistan keeps a single time all year. That puts us four hours ahead of the capital between late October and late March and three hours ahead afterwards. Our hours, nine to six in Pakistan, reach Madrid at five in the morning until two in the afternoon in winter, and six until three in summer. Put a question in your inbox before the mid-morning coffee and it is normally answered the same day; afternoon meetings are booked through [email protected].
Engagements are monthly, ending on 30 days' notice, with payment by bank transfer. The Comunidad de Madrid publishes regional business support information. Compare our Barcelona guide and the Spain overview, or ask for a free audit of your site.
