Shortlisting a digital marketing agency Spain-wide? Begin with the shape of the economy you are selling into. Spain is a country of very small firms, regional identities and several languages, and the marketing that works here reflects all three. This guide explains where Spanish demand came from, where it sits now and where it is moving, and what that means for search, paid media and content.
Our people work remotely from Pakistan. There is no Spanish desk and our own writing is in English, yet the multilingual SEO strategy is planned with you and campaigns are run while Spanish teams are at their desks in the morning.
From brick and sunshine to services: Spain's economic story
For a generation, Spanish growth leaned on two engines: construction and tourism. The property boom of the early 2000s ended hard in 2008, and the years that followed pushed many owners to rebuild their businesses with fewer staff and tighter budgets. Tourism stayed resilient, and the coastal economies of AndalucΓa, the Valencian Community, Catalonia and the islands still depend on it.
What grew in the gap was a dense layer of self-employed professionals and family firms. Eurostat counts 3,516,793 enterprises in Spain's business economy (Eurostat SBS 2024), and 3,325,538 of them are micro-enterprises with 0-9 persons employed, which is 94.6% of all enterprises. At the other end sit just 5,168 enterprises with 250 or more persons employed in Spain (Eurostat SBS 2024).
Demand is now heading towards digital services, renewable energy, logistics around the Mediterranean ports and export-minded food and wine producers. For marketers that means a long tail of small buyers who compare suppliers on their phones, and a short list of large firms that buy through procurement.

What a digital marketing agency Spain buyers hire should actually fix
With so many micro-firms, the first job is usually visibility, not brand theatre. A clinic in Sevilla, a renovation company in Valencia or a winery in La Rioja needs a fast site, a complete Google Business Profile and pages that answer the exact questions customers type. That is the core of our local SEO and SEO services work.
Exporters and SaaS firms have a different problem: they rank at home but are invisible in English-speaking markets. Here the work is international keyword research, hreflang, and content that explains the product to a buyer in Dublin or Amsterdam. Paid search through Google Ads management fills the gap while organic pages mature.
Tourism and hospitality businesses sit in between. They need visibility in English, German and French for visitors, and in Spanish for domestic travellers, which makes seasonality planning the heart of the plan.
How Spanish customers search, and in which language
Most Spanish buyers search in Spanish first. In Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia and the Valencian Community, a share of queries and a lot of trust signals appear in the co-official languages too, so a business in Girona may need Catalan landing pages even if its main site is in Spanish. English searches cluster around tourism, international schools, expatriate services on the coasts and B2B buyers in tech.
We write in English and do not claim native Spanish or Catalan copywriting. What we do is build the keyword map in each language, brief your Spanish writers or translators, and handle the technical side: language versions, hreflang, structured data and internal linking. Many of our clients pair our strategy with a freelance native editor they already trust.
Marketplaces matter as well. Spanish shoppers compare on Amazon.es and on Google Shopping, and service buyers check maps listings before calling. A sound plan treats those surfaces as part of search, not as an afterthought.
Spanish and EU rules your marketing must follow
Spain applies the GDPR, and its data protection authority, the AEPD, publishes guidance on cookies and marketing consent. Email and cookies are governed by the information society services law, Ley 34/2002 (LSSI), which your banner and newsletter flows should be built around.
Phone outreach changed with the General Telecommunications Law. Under Ley 11/2022, article 66.1.b, end users have the right not to receive unwanted calls for commercial communication unless they gave prior consent or another lawful basis under GDPR article 6.1 applies. Article 66.1.a bans automated calls without human intervention, and faxes, without prior consent. Consumers can also register on the Lista Robinson run by Adigital.
Across the EU, fake endorsements and undisclosed paid rankings are banned consumer practices. We are marketers rather than lawyers, so use this as a checklist to confirm with a Spanish legal adviser.
Working with a remote team on Spanish time
Pakistan sits three hours ahead of Madrid in summer and four in winter. Our weekday shift there lands at 6am to 3pm CEST, or 5am to 2pm CET, so anything you send before lunch in Spain gets handled that day, while late-afternoon calls go in the diary by appointment. Messages to [email protected] land with the specialists running your account.
Engagements run month to month with 30 days' notice and payment by bank transfer. Each month you receive a written report showing rankings, traffic, leads and what we changed. We start with a free audit so you can judge the thinking before you commit to anything.
Support bodies and the cities we cover in Spain
Spanish firms have good public support. The CΓ‘mara de Comercio de EspaΓ±a network runs export and digitalisation programmes, and ENISA offers participative loans to young companies. Check those before you spend on growth.
Our first city guide is Barcelona, where tech, events and tourism meet. Madrid and Valencia follow in later waves. If you sell across the Pyrenees, our France guide covers the French market, and the Europe hub lists every country we write about.
