Looking for an SEO agency Wales firms can work with comfortably? Then the first thing to check is whether the agency understands that Wales is not a smaller copy of England. Its business base leans towards construction and farming, its two languages create two sets of search behaviour, and much of its trade is spread across market towns, coastal resorts and valleys rather than concentrated in one city.
In the interest of plain dealing: Arb Digital has no Welsh premises. We are a remote digital marketing team in Pakistan whose working hours line up with the Welsh morning. Below you will find how we approach Welsh markets, which sectors call for which channels, the UK rules involved and the Welsh support organisations worth knowing.
The Welsh business picture from ONS data
Wales had 106,170 VAT or PAYE registered enterprises in the 2026 ONS edition, with 128,250 business sites between them. Micro firms of up to nine employees account for 89.1%, the same as the UK average, while only 335 Welsh businesses have 250 or more staff. Construction is the biggest sector by business count at 14,870, ahead of agriculture, forestry and fishing, with professional, scientific and technical firms third.
So the typical Welsh client is a small, owner-run business selling a practical service in a defined area: builders, electricians, landscapers, farm suppliers, holiday lets, garages. For those firms, good local SEO and a technically sound website outperform almost any brand campaign. There are relatively few large employers to sell to, so B2B firms often need to market into England as well.

Welsh and English: running bilingual search properly
A meaningful share of people in Wales search in Welsh some of the time, and public bodies publish in both languages. For many businesses, a Welsh-language version of key pages builds trust and reaches a less competitive set of search results. Done badly, it creates duplicate pages that confuse Google.
The practical rules we follow:
- Give each language its own URL, never switch language with cookies or scripts alone.
- Link the two versions with hreflang tags (cy-GB and en-GB). Our free hreflang tag generator builds them.
- Have Welsh copy written or checked by a fluent speaker; machine translation reads poorly and Welsh speakers notice at once.
- Fill in both language fields on your Google Business Profile where the platform allows, and keep names and addresses consistent.
This is technical SEO work as much as content, and it is one of the clearest advantages a Welsh business can build over competitors who ignore it.
Sector by sector: what an SEO agency Wales clients hire should prioritise
Construction and trades. The largest group of Welsh firms. Service-area pages for real towns (Bridgend, Wrexham, Llanelli, Aberystwyth and so on), job photos with plain descriptions, and Google Ads limited to the postcodes you serve.
Farming, food and land-based business. Farm shops, butchers, producers and agricultural contractors benefit from accurate maps listings, seasonal content and simple e-commerce for direct sales.
Tourism and hospitality. Pembrokeshire, Snowdonia (Eryri), Gower and the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) draw visitors who plan ahead. Content that answers planning questions and a direct booking path reduce dependence on commission-charging platforms.
Professional services and tech. Concentrated around Cardiff and Swansea, these firms compete on expertise, so useful content and visibility in AI answers count for more than volume.
What Welsh search results look like today
Searching for SEO help across Wales returns the Business Wales directory, Sortlist listings and a handful of Cardiff agencies. That pattern repeats in many Welsh service categories: directories rank because few local sites have strong, specific pages. A Carmarthen roofer with one clear page per town served often outranks larger firms that rely on a single generic page.
If your site is struggling despite good work, our article on why a website is not ranking lists the usual culprits, from indexing errors to thin location pages.
UK rules for Welsh campaigns: calls, data fees and claims
Welsh firms follow UK-wide marketing law. The points that come up most with Welsh trades and rural businesses:
Cold calling. Many trades still sell by phone. Before a sales call, screen the number: anyone registered with the Telephone Preference Service, or a company on the Corporate TPS, is off limits unless they have personally said they welcome your calls. Registrations bite within 28 days, so a list screened in spring is stale by summer. Check numbers through the TPS website.
The ICO fee. Most businesses that hold customer data electronically must pay an annual data protection fee to the ICO unless an exemption applies. The ICO fee page has a quick self-assessment.
Honest advertising. Claims such as "cheapest in Gwynedd" must be provable under the CAP Code. We do not give legal advice, but we will raise these issues before a campaign launches rather than after.
How we work with Welsh clients from Pakistan
The working day here runs 9am to 6pm PKT. For Wales that is early morning until 1pm in winter, or until 2pm once the clocks go forward, so a question sent over breakfast usually gets an answer before lunch. Calls later in the afternoon are agreed in advance.
Each engagement begins with a free audit, then a written plan, then monthly reports with the numbers that matter: enquiries, calls and sales rather than vanity metrics. There is no fixed term; cancel with 30 days' notice. Clients pay by bank transfer.
Welsh businesses should also know Business Wales, the Welsh Government's free advice service, and the Cardiff Capital Region partnership for the south-east. The marketing email rules sit in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003. When you are ready, book the free audit. If you sell over the border too, the England guide covers how buyers there differ.
