Wrexham's wealth once came from beneath and around it: coal pits at Gresford and Bersham, ironworks, brickworks and breweries that made the town one of the largest in North Wales. Those industries faded, a vast industrial estate took their place, and then a football club bought by Hollywood owners put the name in front of audiences on several continents. A marketing agency Wrexham businesses choose should understand all three chapters.
Before going further, an honest disclosure: everyone at Arb Digital works in Pakistan. We have no one in Wrexham or North Wales, and what follows comes from research, not from living locally.
Pits and breweries, an industrial estate, then a worldwide audience
The Gresford disaster of 1934 is still remembered across the town, and the last local collieries closed in the decades after. Brewing, once a major employer, shrank to a fraction of its former size. The big replacement was Wrexham Industrial Estate, built on a former wartime munitions site east of the town and now home to food, pharmaceutical, automotive, aerospace and engineering manufacturers.
More recently the town became a city, and the Racecourse Ground, the world's oldest international football stadium, gained international attention. The Wrexham Gateway scheme, led by the council with partners, plans a new Kop stand, a public transport hub at Wrexham General and development along the Mold Road corridor.
ONS 2026 records 4,205 VAT or PAYE enterprises in the Wrexham council area, on 5,115 sites. Construction leads with 705 businesses. 88.7% of enterprises have nine or fewer staff and 20 have 250 or more, most of those on the industrial estate.

Channels for manufacturers, match-day trade and builders
Industrial estate manufacturers. Many sell to buyers in England, Europe and beyond. SEO around products, standards and export capability, with technical pages that procurement teams and AI assistants can read easily, does more than general brand campaigns.
Hospitality and retail. Pubs, hotels, cafes and shops near the Racecourse now serve visitors from North America and Australia as well as home fans. Accurate listings, multilingual-friendly menus and social media that shows the match-day atmosphere turn one visit into followers who come back.
Construction and trades. The largest group competes for jobs across villages like Gresford, Rhosllanerchrugog, Ruabon and Chirk. Local SEO with true service areas, real project photos and consistent details is the backbone.
Results for a marketing agency Wrexham search
We checked UK results on 20 October 2026. A US agency's templated Wrexham page ranked, as did a regional news story about a new creative agency, Business Wales directory entries and list sites that mix Wrexham firms with agencies from Chester, Manchester and further afield. None explained the local economy.
For local businesses, the message is that a direct, detailed page about your own services can compete. Mention Wrexham, the villages you serve and LL11 to LL14 postcodes, and make clear you are in North Wales, not somewhere called Wrexham elsewhere in the world, which international fans increasingly search for.
Bilingual content and the rules that matter here
Orientation only, not legal advice.
Welsh and English. Most local searches are in English, but schools, public bodies and many residents value Welsh. Translating a few core pages, with hreflang set up correctly, reaches that audience and shows respect for the language.
Match-day promotions. Hospitality offers and ticket-linked deals must be accurate and not misleading. The CAP Code covers availability, prices and the use of club associations you may not be licensed to claim.
Fan sign-ups and tracking. Visitors from Toronto or Sydney who join your mailing list are still protected by UK rules while you hold their details. Pixels from Meta or TikTok that follow them around the web need prior consent, whereas a few low-risk measurement uses were relaxed in 2025. The ICO's storage and access guidance sets out which is which.
Commuters to Chester, fans from abroad, and our working day
Wrexham's searchers keep unusual hours. Many residents commute to Chester, Deeside and Merseyside, while overseas fans plan trips at all hours from other time zones. Our working hours are 9am to 6pm Pakistan time, roughly 4am to 1pm in Wrexham during winter and 5am to 2pm once the clocks go forward. That gives us your morning for calls and changes, and early hours to adjust campaigns before match-day searches peak. Afternoon calls are booked in advance; the inbox is [email protected].
Services continue one month at a time and stop on 30 days' notice. A plain written report follows each month, and invoices are paid by bank transfer.
North Wales support and cross-border markets
Business Wales provides free advice, digital workshops and start-up support, and Ambition North Wales coordinates regional growth projects across the six councils. Ask them first; their help costs nothing. Wrexham Council's business team and the town's traders' groups also share news on events, roadworks and regeneration that affect footfall, useful material for timely social posts and Business Profile updates. The university's enterprise and knowledge-transfer teams can link manufacturers with student projects and research expertise.
Wrexham firms often sell over the border; our Chester and Liverpool guides cover those markets. For a candid look at your website, request a free audit, or read how to appear in AI Overviews.
